Subscriptions

What does Premium include?

Premium opens the full dictionary entry for each word (its parts, root, related words, every meaning and its forms), unlimited flashcards, the Root Garden and Sentence Builder word games, your own decks and bulk editing. The books, the reader, word audio, Find a word, quizzes and Focus mode are free.

How does the free trial work?

New subscribers to the yearly plan get 7 days free. You won’t be charged if you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Otherwise the yearly subscription starts automatically when the trial ends. Each Apple Account or Google Account can use the trial once.

How do I cancel?

On iPhone, Apple manages your subscription. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Maktabati and tap Cancel Subscription.

On Android, Google Play manages it. Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions and Subscriptions, choose Maktabati and tap Cancel subscription.

You keep Premium until the end of the period you have paid for.

Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by us. On iPhone, ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, follow Google Play’s refund help.

I paid but Premium isn’t showing

On iPhone, make sure you are signed in with the Apple Account you subscribed with. Then open the Premium screen in Maktabati (for example Upgrade to Premium in Profile) and tap Restore.

On Android, make sure the Play Store is using the Google Account you subscribed with, then tap Restore Purchases in Profile.

If it still isn’t working, email us and we will help.

Using Maktabati

A word says “Not in the dictionary yet”

We are adding full dictionary entries chapter by chapter. Every word already has its translation, transliteration and audio, and its full entry will appear when its chapter is added.

How do I change the Arabic font or text size?

While reading, tap Aa at the top of the page to choose a font and text size.

Focus mode isn’t blocking my apps

On iPhone, Focus uses Apple’s Screen Time. In the Focus tab, check that Screen Time access is allowed, that you have chosen your Limited apps, and that Block at zero is on. If you turned off Screen Time access in Settings, allow it again from the Focus tab.

On Android, Focus uses the Accessibility service. In the Focus tab, check that Accessibility access, Display over other apps and Run in the background are allowed, that you have chosen your Limited apps, and that Block at zero is on. Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery, so if Focus stops counting, allow Maktabati again from the Focus tab.

Will I lose my flashcards if I change phones?

Not if you sign in. In Profile, under Account, tap Keep your progress and sign in on your old phone, then sign in with the same account on the new one, and your flashcards, decks and reading place come with you. You can also delete your account at any time.

Without an account, your flashcards, decks and progress are stored on your phone. On iPhone, they move to a new iPhone when you restore it from an iCloud or computer backup of your old one. On Android, they move when you restore your new phone from your Google backup or copy your data across from your old phone. Deleting the app deletes them.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No account is needed: everything works without one. Signing in (with Apple or Google on iPhone and iPad, with Google on Android) is optional and keeps your words and reading place in step across your devices. Premium stays with your App Store or Google Play purchase either way.

The books that come with the app and the dictionary are inside it, so you can read offline, and word audio is saved over Wi-Fi so it plays offline too. You need a connection to download a new book from the online library, sign in, subscribe or restore a purchase.
